The CIA and the other 17 US intelligence agencies will get their own artificial intelligence. The algorithm will help them “sift” the huge amount of information when working on a given mission or goal, reports Bloomberg.
The Central Intelligence Agency is preparing to launch a feature similar to ChatGPT. The bot will give agents faster and easier access to public information.
“We’ve gone from newspapers and radio, to newspapers and TV, to newspapers and cable TV, to internet media, to big data, and the transition continues” says the CIA’s Randy Nixon, chief of the agency’s artificial intelligence division.
“Artificial intelligence will help us find the right needle from the pile of needlesNixon added.
The chatbot interface will allow agents to extract valuable information simply by asking the algorithm questions.
The interest of the 18 US intelligence agencies in total in AI is quite old. More than 10 years ago, the NSA sponsored a scientific project that was supposed to develop machine self-learning. Big data analysis has also long been in AI agencies’ plans.
Only recently, however, do they want to be able to take advantage of the innovations of generative artificial intelligence and the new generation of chatbots.
In May, NSA Director Gilbert Herrera told Bloomberg that the intelligence community was still trying to “find a way to take advantage of large language patterns.”
One of the problems with scouts is the sheer amount of information they can access. This overwhelms analysts with tons of data and slows down their work.
“Analysts will work like never before because AI will feed the right information, summarize and group things together,” Nixon said.
“Not only will the machine provide valuable answers as you chat with it, but it will also indicate the source of that informationNixon concludes.
The entry of artificial intelligence into US intelligence agencies is a reaction to China’s plan to become the world’s AI leader. Washington is doing everything in its power to slow down the technological development of its main geopolitical competitor. An example of this is the ban on the sale of chips and the transfer of advanced technology to Beijing.
China has already begun to integrate AI into its state apparatus. From 2021, artificial intelligence helps to issue quick court decisions.
