US Inflation Rates: Core Inflation Slows to 3.9% in August, Excluding Volatile Energy and Food Prices

However, excluding volatile energy and food prices, so-called core inflation is slowing to 3.9% year-on-year compared to 4.3% in July.

Inflation measured by consumer prices (PCE) in the United States – favored by the Fed for its monetary policy equation – rose to 3.5% over one year in August, compared to 3. .4% reviewed in July. The market was expecting a value of 3.5%.

Over one month alone, the price increase is 0.4%, as expected, compared to 0.2% in July. But excluding volatile energy and food prices, so-called underlying inflation is slowing, to 3.9% over one year compared to 4.3% in July.
