Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are becoming increasingly helpful for professionals in many fields, including those working in public institutions. However, there are significant privacy and data security risks involved in this. That is why the US House of Representatives recently adopted new rules that prohibit the use of AI chatbots by congressional staff, except for one – “ChatGPT Plus”.
It states that Congressional staff may only use the paid service “ChatGPT” because it provides stronger privacy controls. However, the use of this tool is also strictly limited – employees can only use it for “research and evaluation” and not in the performance of daily duties. It is also important that the chatbot may only be used for work with publicly available data. Overall, then, this is a small but cautious step toward the broader use of AI in Congress.

It should be noted that OpenAI launched its ChatGPT Plus paid service in early February. Compared to the regular free version “ChatGPT Plus”, users get additional exclusive features and more convenient usability. For example, unlimited access to the chatbot, faster response times, as well as priority access to the latest features.
