US House of Commons Puts Republican Greene Off Committees To ‘Spread Lies’ | NOW

The US House of Representatives on Thursday decided to expel controversial Republican Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene from two major parliamentary committees. Greene was discredited for spreading conspiracy theories and calling for violence against Democrats.

Wednesday made the Republican Party still known Greene for her earlier statements. She would have apologized and that was the end of it, said Republican lower house chairman Kevin McCarthy.

On Thursday, 95 percent of the Republicans voted against punishing Greene, but because the Democrats have a majority, it was already expected that consequences would follow. She was expelled from the two committees by 230 to 199 votes.

Steny Hoyer, the Democrats’ number two, said Thursday’s vote on Greene was about decency and truth. “I have never experienced a situation where a congressman makes such mean and painful statements and is so involved in insulting colleagues.” Hoyer showed a photo in parliament showing Greene aiming an automatic rifle at three Democratic congressmen.

Greene, 46, who sits in parliament for the state of Georgia, is an ardent supporter of now-departed President Donald Trump and insists he won the presidential election.

The Republicans called Thursday’s punishment of Greene hypocritical and a seizure of power. According to McCarthy, punishing MPs for rulings made before joining Congress sets a dangerous precedent. “You’re going to regret this. If the majority gets to say who gets to sit on the committees, I hope you’ll stick to that standard, because we have a long list,” McCarthy said.
