According to the BEA (US Department of transportation), sales of heavy goods vehicles recorded a new increase in May in the United States. A graph dating back to 1967 shows that registrations fell mainly during major crises, including the last with COVID.
Heavy truck sales were 558,000 in May, up from 548,000 in April, and up 20% from May 2022. They had been on a downward trend for a few months.
The BEA shows through a graph, and unsurprisingly, that truck sales have collapsed in several important periods, mainly economic and health crises (latest COVID). They fell to 180,000 in May 2009 and then reached a new all-time high of 570,000 in April 2019.
Truck sales fell sharply at the start of the pandemic, falling to a low of 308,000 SAAR in May 2020. They stood at 558,000 in May, from 548,000 in April, and up 20% from to 464,000 in May 2022.
