Golf superstar Tiger Woods was injured in his legs in a car accident in Los Angeles and had an immediate operation. The cause of the accident is currently unclear. No other vehicles were involved.
US golf star Tiger Woods was injured on his legs in a serious car accident in Los Angeles and was operated on in hospital. This was announced by his manager Mark Steinberg, according to several US media.
The cause of the accident is still unknown
According to the police, the 15-time major winner Woods was alone in his car on Tuesday morning when it overturned for a previously unknown cause. How severe the 45-year-old’s injuries are was initially unclear. In Steinberg’s statement there was talk of “several leg injuries”.
The car was so badly damaged that Woods had to be cut out with a special device, the police said in a tweet. Then he was taken to a hospital.
On TV recordings of the scene of the accident in the suburb of Palos Verdes in the southeast of Los Angeles, a dark SUV was seen lying on the driver’s side. The front part of the vehicle was destroyed. No other cars were involved.
This is the third time Woods has been involved in a car accident that is open to investigation. In 2009 he drove over a hydrant and hit a tree. In 2017 the Florida police found him sleeping behind his wheel, the car parked on the side of the road. He later pleaded guilty to road traffic negligence and went to therapy.
The accident car overturned and landed on the driver’s side.

Woods is one of the most successful golfers and best paid athletes in the world. He led the world rankings for a total of 683 weeks.
The PGA Tour issued a statement assuring Woods its full support in recovery. Woods’ colleague Justin Thomas, number three in the golf world, said, “I feel sick. It hurts when one of your closest friends is in an accident. I just hope he’s okay. I worry for his children, I’m sure they’re having a hard time right now. ”
Woods hosted a PGA tournament in Los Angeles at the weekend and presented the trophy to winner Max Homa on Sunday. The golfer himself could not participate after his fifth operation on his back in December and hoped to play again at the Masters in Augusta in April. Tiger was currently in rehab because of his surgery.
