Pistorius said the exercise was currently “under review,” giving no other details.
Military maneuvers in the country bordering Ukraine would send a “very clear” signal to NATO allies, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said.
NATO is “far from being as weak as Putin has long believed,” the German defense minister said, noting that the alliance was “much stronger and more cohesive than last year” prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
However, “for Eastern European countries such as Poland, the Baltic states, Slovakia and others, it is important to see that Germany as the most important European member of the Alliance and the US as a transatlantic partner fulfill their defense obligations,” Pistorius added.
Earlier, the minister said that there are several ways to end the war in Ukraine. It is not only about victory on the battlefield, but also about negotiations or the withdrawal of Russian troops.
