US forces shot down three attack drones near commercial shipping ships in the Red Sea on Friday, the day after they struck four drones that were prepared to be launched in Yemen, according to what the US military announced.
Since November 19, the Houthis have been carrying out attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.
The US Central Military Command (Centcom) announced in a statement on a social media network that US forces were able early Friday to “shoot down three Houthi assault drones near a number of commercial shipping ships operating in the Red Sea. The ships did not sustain any damage.”
Centcom said that on Thursday, American forces struck four Houthi drones and two anti-ship cruise missiles, explaining that the weapons “were prepared to be launched toward the Red Sea from areas in Yemen controlled by the Houthis.”
In an attempt to deter them, American and British forces have been launching strikes on Houthi sites since January 12. The US Army alone carries out strikes from time to time that it says target sites or missiles and drones prepared for launch.
Following Western strikes, the Houthis began targeting American and British ships in the region, considering that the interests of both countries had become “legitimate targets.”
