US finds assault weapons hidden in sofas at Mexican border

Sunday, May 30, 2021 ((rezonodwes.com)) – US authorities seized several assault weapons, magazines and telescopic sights hidden in futon-style sofas on the border with Mexico, customs officials said on Sunday and border protection (CBP).

Officers from CBP’s Office of Field Operations (OFO) discovered the cargo during a check in the United States exit lanes at the Del Rio International Port of Entry, which connects Del Rio, Texas, in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico.

The shipment included eight semi-automatic weapons, eight magazines and two telescopic sights, CBP said in a statement.

“This interception is just one example of the work they are doing to protect our communities on both sides of the border,” said Del Rio Port of Entry Director Liliana Flores.

The seizure came on May 25 when officers assigned to out-of-country operations selected a van heading to Mexico and sent it in for inspection.
