The Shakespeare classic “Macbeth” has been filmed many times. Now another version comes out with the Hollywood stars Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington.

A remake of the Shakespeare classic “Macbeth” with the top-class Oscar winners Frances McDormand (“Nomadland”) and Denzel Washington (“Training Day”) will celebrate its world premiere in New York.
According to the organizers, “The Tragedy of Macbeth” will be the opening film at the New York Film Festival at the end of September. The drama is being released by Studio A24 and Apple Original Films.
The director is Joel Coen (“Fargo”, “No Country for Old Men”), who has been married to McDormand since 1984 and who has often brought her in front of the camera. At the end of April, the actress won the Oscar for best leading actress for “Nomadland”. Joel’s brother Ethan is usually involved in Coen projects as a producer, director or screenwriter. “Macbeth” is a solo project by Joel, who also did the script and production.
The tragedy of William Shakespeare from 1606 revolves around a power-hungry, unscrupulous prince (Washington) who wants to become King of Scotland with the help of his wife Lady Macbeth (McDormand). After screen adoptions by Orson Welles (1948) or Roman Polanski (1971), the Australian Justin Kurzel brought Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in front of the camera as the murderous couple in 2015.
