US fighter jets intercepted Russian warplanes off the coast of Alaska

According to US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, advance notice is required for entry into the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which stretches over 300 kilometers off the coast of Alaska.

North American Air Force Command (NORAD) said in a statement that the Russian aircraft “remained in international airspace and did not enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.”

NORAD said it does not regard Russia’s activity as a threat or provocation, adding that it usually monitors the movement of foreign planes and, if necessary, drives them out of the ADIZ.
