The sister-in-law of US President Joe Biden (pictured) has been targeted for seizure and search by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI is said to have found additional classified documents through the search and seizure. According to foreign media such as the AP and Reuters on the 22nd, on the 21st (local time), President Biden’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, announced that a search and seizure was conducted for his sister-in-law in Wilmington, Delaware. The search and seizure was conducted with the permission of President Biden, and the presidential couple were not present.
According to Attorney Bauer, the FBI obtained documents containing six items, marked confidential and made up of several appendices. Some documents were written during President Biden’s tenure as a Delaware senator from 1973 to 2009, and other documents were found to have been created during his vice-presidential period from 2019 to 2017. It is said that he also secured some documents written in his own handwriting during his vice-presidential days.
President Biden’s White House attorney, Richard Sauber, said, “The president’s attorneys and the White House will continue to cooperate so that the Justice Department and special prosecutor’s investigation process proceeds quickly and efficiently.” This case came to light when it became known that confidential documents were found in President Biden’s personal office.
On the 9th, American media such as CBS reported that President Biden’s lawyers found confidential documents written during the vice president’s time in a private office in Washington, DC. Later, on the 12th and 14th, additional documents with confidential marks were found in the sister-in-law. In response, the Ministry of Justice appointed Robert Hur, a former prosecutor of Korean descent, as a special prosecutor and launched an investigation.
In response, President Biden met with reporters in California on the 19th and said, “We found that a small number of documents were stored in the wrong place and immediately handed them over to the archives and the Department of Justice.” have said
The opposition US Republican Party has increased the level of its offensive against President Biden. Previously, at the time of the leak of former President Donald Trump’s classified documents, the FBI pointed out that the FBI raided his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The Republican Party, which is the majority party in the U.S. House of Representatives, hints at the possibility of triggering the congressional right to investigate, saying that apart from the special prosecutor’s investigation, there is a need to look into the leaked confidential documents at the House level as well.
