US evacuates 16,000 a day until Putin is nervous

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized Western countries for seeking temporary shelter for Afghan refugees in central Asian countries.

Afghan refugees plan to hold a demonstration in front of the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Jakarta, Tuesday (24/8), to demand clarity on the status of their placement.

“We Afghan refugees plan to hold a protest tomorrow (today),” said one of the Afghan refugees, Hakmat, to CNNIndonesia.com.

Hakmat said that he expected around 200-500 refugees to take part in the peaceful protest.

Hakmat admitted that they had not yet obtained a permit from the local authorities. However, they will still hold an action because the refugees have no other choice.
