US Ethics Complaint Filed Against Florida Governor by Prensa Latina

The complaint alleges the conservative politician violated state law, and centers on his three-day stay at a Palm Beach hotel, which he used to meet with donors and Republican lawmakers, The Hill newspaper reported.

According to records filed, the Friends of Ron DeSantis political committee paid more than $235,000 to the resort.

The complaint also points to a handful of other bills from the committee, including $142,000 given to Miami’s Four Seasons hotel for meeting expenses, and nearly $12,000 worth of food and beverages at Dirty French Steakhouse in the same city.

“This is yet another example of Ron DeSantis arrogantly thinking he is above the law. No one is above the law,” Fried said in a statement.

He added that while the citizens of that region face some of the highest mortgage and home insurance rates in history, the governor rubs shoulders with special interest donors and fills his pockets with freebies.

“Floridians deserve answers and DeSantis must be held accountable,” he demanded.

Fried’s complaint is the second filed against the Florida leader in less than two weeks, recalled The Hill.

Make America Great Again Inc., the main political action committee aligned with former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), filed one earlier this month accusing him of violating state and federal laws by running a “shadow presidential campaign.” .

DeSantis’s office dismissed that complaint as “politically motivated” and also dismissed Fried’s complaint.

The Florida governor is seen as a frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and is actively preparing for a campaign, though an announcement is not expected until later this spring after the annual session of the state legislature ends. of Florida, estimated the publication.
