US Embassy reviews logistics for Sheinbaum’s inauguration

Mexico City. This Thursday, a group of security elements from the United States Embassy in Mexico went to the Chamber of Deputies to review the route that the delegation of officials and representatives of that country will take that will attend the inauguration of the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, on October 1.

According to sources from the Legislative Palace, around 20 Americans – accompanied by Mexican soldiers – took a tour of various areas of the premises, including the entrances through which the foreign guests who will be present at the site next Tuesday will pass.

According to the people consulted, the security elements explored the option that the group of visitors from the United States, led by the first lady of that nation, Jill Biden, could be located in the box area of ​​the Session Hall.

As reported in this newspaper, in addition to Biden, Ken Salazar, United States ambassador to Mexico, will also be present; and the secretaries of the Department of Health, Xavier Becerra, and of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas, among other officials.

Today, but later, a group of collaborators from Sheinbaum’s transition team – accompanied by Chamber staff – carried out a new tour in San Lázaro to review the logistics of next Tuesday’s ceremony. It was possible to observe that in various spaces of the property fences have already been placed to delimit the routes of the visitors who will come on October 1st.

“These are the details so that this event is impeccable, as the president-elect deserves and also the image of Mexico, which will go around the world, because she is the first woman who will be sworn in as president of the country. Many of the national and international guests do not necessarily know the spaces of the Chamber, and the intention is to be kind enough to accompany them to the places where they belong,” said the general secretary of the Chamber, Graciela Báez Ricardez, in an interview.

According to the official, on October 1, 930 guests of the president-elect are expected to arrive, who will join the 500 deputies and 128 senators. Within the legislative precinct there will be 14 personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), as well as 250 security elements from the Chamber, 42 doctors and paramedics and five ambulances. Outside, surveillance will be carried out by the capital’s police.

Báez indicated that throughout the week “personnel from different heads of state have come to the Chamber to see the places and become familiar with them,” and that the fences that currently protect the property “are not the final ones. They are provisional, but I understand that another type of fence will be set up by Sedena.”
