Gay rights are human rights, just as human rights are gay rights,” Krie Karber announced to the participants in yesterday’s “Sofia Pride“. Karber was introduced by the moderator of the event – Elsa Parini, as the deputy head of the US Embassy.
The highlight of the eighth edition of the Sofia Gay Parade is education, and therefore sexually diverse people in our country must fight for equal access to it, Karber pointed out.
The participants in the parade were also welcomed by the new ambassador of Great Britain, Emma Kate Hopkins.
The eighth edition of “Sofia Pride” was marked by an increased police presence. The procession was guarded by uniformed officers with dogs, horses and trucks.
Earlier in the day, activists of the “National Resistance – Bulgaria” movement organized an anti-gay parade. Their procession started from “Moskovska” 33 as a sign of protest against the agreement of the Metropolitan Municipality to hold the pride.
