The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala has announced a donation to provide the Ministry of Public Health and Human Welfare (MSPAS) with 100 freezers and ten spare kits to store COVID-19 vaccines.

The US government has turned over funds to the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) to provide the equipment to the healthcare portfolio.

“The freezers have a storage capacity of 225 liters to store between 5,000 and 8,000 doses of vaccines for Guatemalans. Furthermore, the donation will make it possible to keep the vaccines in optimal conditions having a temperature between +2°C and +8°C and guaranteeing the cold chain”, underlined the diplomatic representation in a statement.

The US Embassy in Guatemala explained that with the donation they seek to strengthen the cold chain of the Ministry of Health, as well as its planning and implementation of vaccination against COVID-19.

According to the portfolio in its latest report, 19.9 million doses of immunizers were applied in Guatemala, 8.8 million in the first application, 7.02 million in the second application, 3.5 million in the first application and 486,972 in the second application.

“This refrigerator donation will help frontline staff in their vital efforts to deliver vaccines locally across Guatemala. We thank the Pan American Health Organization for facilitating this donation and their collaboration to protect health in Guatemala,” the ambassador said.
