United States (US) Dollar back to strengthening. This morning, the US dollar broke the level of IDR 15,000. What does Bank Indonesia (BI) say?
Head of Bank Indonesia’s Monetary Management Department, Edi Susianto, said that externally there were a number of sentiments. One of them is the issue of the US debt ceiling.
There are various sentiments that encourage the strengthening of the dollar, but there are also those that hold back the strengthening of Uncle Sam’s country’s currency.
“In general, if we look at global sentiment, there are still ups and downs, from the issue of the debt ceiling to the release of Chinese data which was below expectations. This means that there are those who are pulling towards strengthening the DXY but there are those who are holding back strengthening. Until now, Asian currencies have been holding back. strengthen against the USD but there are also those that weaken against the USD,” he explained detikcomWednesday (31/5/2023).
He continued, in Indonesia there is a cycle of increasing demand for dollars. This was due to the repatriation of dividends and debt payments.
“In the Indonesian market, it happened to be followed in May this cycle of increased USD demand, among others, for repatriation of dividends and debt payments,” he said.
Quoting RTI data, the US dollar this morning increased 54 points or strengthened 0.36% to a level of IDR 15,004. The US dollar is at the highest position of Rp. 15,018 and the lowest is Rp. 14,950.
Uncle Sam’s currency strengthened against the rupiah on a daily to weekly basis. However, when viewed from the beginning of the year, the US dollar still weakened against the rupiah by 3.60%.
The US dollar strengthened against almost all world currencies today. The greenback strengthened the most against the Taiwan dollar by 0.67%, the New Zealand dollar by 0.61%, the Korean won 0.47% to the euro 0.36%. The US dollar only weakened against the Hong Kong dollar by 0.04%.
