(CNN) — Sam Brenton, who is in charge of nuclear fuel and radioactive waste at the US Department of Energy, is no longer employed at the federal agency, local reports and court documents show, after two alleged incidents of theft of travelers luggage at the airport.
Brenton was charged in December with “grand theft” in Nevada after allegedly stealing luggage from Harry Reid International Airport, according to a report by KLAS.
A US Department of Energy spokesperson limited himself to comment, saying that “Sam Brenton is no longer a Department of Energy employee,” noting that, by law, the department cannot comment further on personnel matters. .
An LGBTQ+ advocate and vocal activist against conversion therapy, Brenton also partnered with the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization focused on suicide prevention in the LGBTQ community, to launch a campaign to ban conversion therapy across the country.
CNN has reached out to Brenton for comment, with no response as of this writing.
