US Department of Defense Confirms Leak of Classified Data: White House Unable to Confirm if Eliminated

As of now, the White House cannot say whether the leak of confidential information has been eliminated, according to the administration’s national security adviser John Kirby.

“The Pentagon is still working to determine the extent of the leakage of classified information that has occurred in recent weeks,” Chris Meagher, assistant secretary of defense for public relations, commented to media representatives on the situation.

According to him, the relevant ministry is working around the clock to study the volume and scope of dissemination of information.


“We are still studying how this happened, as well as the scale of the problem. Steps have been taken to take a closer look at how this type of information is distributed and to whom,” the assistant secretary of defense of the United States said.

In addition, Chris Meagher announced that the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, learned about the leak on Thursday, April 6.

Note that according to the information that became available to CNN, the classified information that became publicly available also concerned the military operations in Ukraine. Including the counteroffensive, which is being prepared by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Leakage of classified data: what they say about it in the White House

On Monday, April 10, US Presidential Administration National Security Adviser John Kirby confirmed leakage of classified information in the relevant ministry.

“We cannot yet say whether the leak of secret Pentagon materials has been stopped or whether the publication of some other such data is possible,” he said.

Kirby also added that this information is not related to open access. She has nothing to do on the front pages of newspapers or on television.

How Pentagon Information Leaks Will Affect Ukraine

John Kirby, in his speech during a briefing on April 10, also touched upon the issue of how the release of classified data from the US Department of Defense may affect Ukraine.

According to him, this will not affect plans to help Kyiv. Washington will provide material and technical support for as long as required.

“As for your question about whether this leak affected our plans to provide assistance to Ukraine, the answer is no. It will continue for as long as necessary,” said the national security adviser to the US presidential administration.

Recall that the United States is investigating a leak of secret Pentagon data. Focus figured out whether the “leak” would affect the Ukrainian counteroffensive, and also how about 100 documents of the US Department of Defense got into the network.
