The United States denied Russian diplomats the opportunity to participate in a meeting of the International Grains Council in New Orleans, according to a publication by the Russian Embassy in Washington on social networks.
“An egregious case was the ban on the participation of diplomats at the meeting of the International Grains Council on January 24 in New Orleans. By such an act, the United States clearly demonstrated that it is easily ready to violate its obligations as the host of multilateral meetings,” the diplomatic mission said.
Diplomats noted that obstacles to Russian presence at events that are significant in terms of the history of interaction with the United States have become the norm. The embassy called on the American authorities to “soberly assess the consequences of the course towards the hollowing out of bilateral relations.”
“We demand a responsible approach to the functions of the organizer of international meetings, participation in which Russia is not only in demand by other states, but is also necessary for making effective decisions on problems that concern the whole world,” the diplomatic mission said.
The International Grains Council is an intergovernmental organization aimed at promoting the development and strengthening of international cooperation in the field of grain crops between grain exporting and importing countries.
