US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will undergo a routine examination on March 1, Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder said at a briefing.
«[1 марта] Secretary Austin will travel to the National Military Medical Center. Walter Reed for routine appointments with their doctors,” he said.
Ryder added that Austin’s recovery from cancer treatment is going well.
In December 2023, Austin was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had the tumor removed and was discharged, but was hospitalized again on January 1, 2024 due to complications. According to NBC television, the minister spent four days in the intensive care unit.
Austin made his first public appearance after treatment on January 24, and at the end of the month he returned to full-time work, but in February, the head of the Pentagon was hospitalized for the third time. He was discharged in the middle of the month.
Lloyd Austin is 70 years old. He took over as head of the Pentagon in January 2021, becoming the first African American to lead the country’s military department.
