This decision was taken considering the increasing number of cases and as a quick response to reduce the transmission of cases in the community.
Cases of monkeypox in the United States alone are known to have reached 6,600 cases. However, in total, worldwide cases of monkeypox reached 26 thousand from 80 countries that have reported.
After the US declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency, will Indonesia follow suit in the next few days?
Answering this, Epidemiologist Griffith University Australia Dicky Budiman explained that for now Indonesia should not issue a public health emergency status.
The basic reason is that the case has not been found, although there is a suspected case in Central Java which is still in the process of further investigation.
“(For Indonesia) Right now is not the time to issue a national public health emergency statement, because Indonesia is still in the early stages,” said Dicky Budiman when contacted by MNC Portal, Friday (5/8/2022).
