US Court of Appeals Orders Uber and Lyft to Comply with Labor Laws
It’s a case that will likely set a precedent for multiple lawsuits. The state of California sued Uber and Lyft for considering their drivers to be outsourced freelancers.
The state disagrees and wants companies to hire them.
That would mean Uber and Lyft would have to pay them more, provide insurance, pay for all kinds of fringe benefits, etc. The companies do not like that and that is why they have already announced that they will leave California when the time comes.
Appeal
So they appealed and that case was settled on Thursday. The court ruled that the previous judge did the best he could and was therefore right. Uber and Lyft now have 60 days to appeal and the Supreme Court to rule on the decision.
