The US Congress agreed Thursday to raise the debt ceiling, removing the specter of a US default on its debt, in a move that President Joe Biden hailed as a “major victory”.
The Senate passed the bill, which had previously been passed by the House of Representatives, late in the evening.
This text came as a result of arduous negotiations between Biden and the Republican camp, and it will allow Washington to pay its payments until the beginning of 2025.
“This is a huge victory for the economy and the American people,” Biden said. He added that he was “looking forward” to the publication of this law, which he had negotiated with the Republican camp for weeks.
