US Congress Delay on Ukraine Military Aid Could Lead to Dire Consequences, Officials Warn

Western officials are concerned about the prospect of a lack of action from the US Congress on funding military aid to Ukraine, fearing that without it and the support of other Western countries, Kyiv could fight on its own for only a few months.

Details: The publication says that Western intelligence services are now calculating how long Ukraine can hold out without the help of the United States and NATO. One US military official estimates it’s “months away,” with a worst-case scenario calling for “significant retreat or even defeat” before the summer of 2024.

“There is no guarantee of success with us, but they will definitely fail without us,” a senior US military official told CNN.

The greatest concern in the West is the impact of the lack of aid on Ukraine’s counter-offensive in the east and south, where Ukrainian forces are struggling to make significant progress while military support is still pouring in from the United States.

“If we talk about seizing and holding further territory, it is difficult to imagine how this can be successful without further support from the United States,” says one European diplomat.

Without additional U.S. help, Western officials estimate that Ukraine will first run out of long-range missiles, then air defense missiles, and then artillery ammunition and short-range missiles such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.

The lack of resolution on military aid in Congress is already affecting the battlefield in Ukraine. According to CNN interlocutors, Ukrainian troops are already rationing ammunition, and the Russian Federation has a “five to seven times” advantage in them.

“A Ukrainian military official told CNN that the Ukrainian command believes that the impact on their firepower led to additional casualties among Ukrainian troops,” the material says.

Let us remind you: As you know, the White House’s request for additional funding, which provides for a total of about $61 billion to be allocated to Ukraine for military and macro-financial assistance, has been stuck in the US Congress for more than two months. But this week the lower house of Congress went on vacationwhich makes it impossible to accept help until the new year.
