US commotion New York sex scandal, Biden asks to resign

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) is in a commotion. The official report covers how New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was found to have sexually harassed 11 women, Tuesday (3/8/2021).

State Attorney General Letitia James summed up the months-long investigation with that conclusion. Biden’s Democratic partner was found guilty of violating federal and state laws.

The 165-page report reveals the confessions of 179 witnesses. The work environment created in Cuomo’s office is said to be full of fear and intimidation.

“What the investigation revealed was a pattern of disruptive behavior on the part of the governor of the state of New York,” James said Reuters.

“(A total of) 11 women were in a hostile and ‘toxic’ work environment.”

The women who were harassed included members of her own staff, the public and even the police. Cuomo’s wave of calls for resignation has been buzzing in the US, including from President Joe Biden.

In a statement to reporters, Biden called on Cuomo to resign. “He should resign,” he said at the White House CNBC International Wednesday (4/8/2021).

Biden also said state legislatures could decide to impeach. This is if the governor refuses to step down.

Cuomo is actually a potential figure in the Democrats as a presidential candidate in 2024. Especially if Biden decides not to run for re-election.

He has been governor since 2011. His name had soared when he firmly opposed former President Donald Trump in handling Covid-19 policies in the region.

In a video, Cuomo said his behavior was misunderstood by his accusers. The man, who has three daughters, said he had never touched anyone inappropriately.

“I want you to know … I have never touched anyone inappropriately or engaged in inappropriate sexual seduction,” Cuomo said.

“I’m 63 years old. I’ve lived my entire adult life in public. That’s not who I am.”
