The thermometer in Yeoui Peak in Flame Mountain in the northwest of China, which is considered the hottest place in China, recorded 80 degrees.

According to the Xinjiang Turpan Meteorological Observatory, the temperature was 52.2 degrees Centigrade, the highest ever recorded.

“On the 16th, the highest temperature at five observatories in Turpan City, Xinjiang exceeded 50 degrees Celsius. A giant thermometer at the Flaming Mountain scenic spot showed that the surface temperature reached 80 degrees Celsius.”

On the same day, US special envoy for climate change John Kerry visited China.

‘52.2℃’ was a hot topic at the meeting with China’s second-in-command, Prime Minister Li Chang.

Wang Yi, who had worked together as G2’s foreign minister in the past, joined hands after a long time.

Through the global issue of climate response, we sought a turning point in US-China relations buried in strategic competition.

[왕이 / 중국공산당 중앙 외사판공실 주임 : 기후 변화는 중국과 미국의 더 큰 틀의 협력이 필요하기 때문에 두 나라 국민의 인정과 지지를 받아야 합니다.]

However, earlier in the meeting with China’s climate special representative Xie Chen, a tug-of-war continued for nearly 12 hours.

China, which is urgently facing economic stimulus and power shortages, is again increasing its dependence on coal power generation.

The United States is also passive about removing tariffs on Chinese solar panels, international climate change funds, or compensation.

At the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in November, the United States and China sit face to face to put forward specific greenhouse gas reduction targets, and the results have not been announced despite the marathon talks.
