Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, died on Friday at the age of 87 from pancreatic cancer. It has US Supreme Court let them know. Ginsburg was considered one of the most famous lawyers in the country and was also seen as an icon for the progressives.
“Our country has lost a lawyer of historic magnitude,” said Chief Justice John Roberts. “We at the Supreme Court have lost a dear colleague. Today we mourn, but with the confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her: a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”
Ginsburg was known for being progressive and often spoke out for women’s rights and minorities. Democratic President Clinton appointed Ginsburg a Supreme Court justice in 1993. Such an appointment is for life.
The Chief Justice had been dealing with health problems for a long time. After being treated for cancer several times, Ginsburg announced in July this year that he had become ill again.

Trump likely chooses conservative successor
The Supreme Court plays a hugely important and decisive role in American politics. For example, the Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973 and same-sex marriage in 2015.
The nine-member highest court in the country had a conservative majority before Ginsburg’s death. For the third time in his term in office, President Donald Trump can appoint a new Chief Justice. Trump previously appointed two Conservatives as Chief Justice: Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.
It is likely that Trump will elect a Conservative Chief Justice, strengthening the majority even further. However, debate has already arisen in American politics about whether Trump can appoint a new chief justice, or whether to wait until after the election in November.
