Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Selebgram United States of America who had been declared mysteriously missing while traveling with his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, was declared dead due to strangulation.
A member of the Wyoming investigation team, Brent Blue, estimated that Gaby had been strangled to death about three or four weeks before her body was found on September 19.
Blue said that the autopsy process for Petito’s body took more than three weeks. The process involves specialists from outside the institution and analysis of toxicology test results.
“This is just to make sure we’re doing everything right,” Blue said at a press conference Reuters.
Blue then said, “This issue has been heavily highlighted by the media. But in fact, this is just one of many deaths of people involved in domestic violence in the country.”
Petito was last seen on 26 August. His remains were later found near the Spreed Creek Dispersed Campground in Bridger Teton National Forest, west of Wyoming.
He had disappeared after traveling with his girlfriend, Brian Laundrie. They started the journey in early July from Long Island, New York, which is where Petito’s parents live.
As they traveled all the way to Utah, Petito documented the activity in his car and posted it on social media.
He last posted the video on August 25, the same day he spoke to his mother, Nicole Schimdt, by phone for the last time.
After a week, on September 1, Laundrie returned to her family home in North Port in a white Petito car, but alone. Ten days later, petito’s mother reported the news of her child’s loss to police in New York.
Since then, the authorities have been looking for Laundrie, who is suspected of having information about Petito. The case gets complicated when the man also disappears. He has not been seen since September 14.
According to Laundrie’s parents, her son will be climbing a mountain near the Carlon Reserve wilderness. Police also conducted an investigation at Laundrie’s home.
Separately, police in Moab, Utah, later released body camera footage of meeting Petito and Laundrie on August 12.
In the video, Petito is seen sobbing as he tells his argument with Laundrie. He admitted that Laundrie hit him in the arm. Officers did not arrest the couple, but insisted that the two sleep separately.
Since Petito’s disappearance, police and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have used divers, sniffer dogs and helicopters to search for him. However, they found no sign of the woman’s whereabouts.
Petitio’s body was finally found in September. At that time, investigators stated that Petito died because he was murdered.
On Sept. 23, a federal jury in Wyoming indicted Laundrie on charges of fraud using a Petito bank debit card between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 for which $1,000 was spent.
But so far, Laundrie has not been charged for Petito’s death.
