Liputan6.com, Massachusetts – Three-quarters of infected people COVID-19 at public events in the city Massachusetts fully vaccinated, a study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC show.
This study, published on Friday 30 July 2021 without naming the city, suggests varian Delta of the virus is highly contagious, Reuters proclaimed, as quoted from Channelnewsasia, Saturday (31/7/2021).
The study found vaccinated individuals had the same amount of virus presence as unvaccinated, suggesting that, unlike other variants, vaccinated people infected with the Delta variant can transmit the virus, the CDC said.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said this was an “important finding” that led to the CDC’s recommendation this week that masks be worn in areas where cases are surging as a precaution against possible transmission by fully vaccinated people.
“Mask recommendations are updated to ensure the vaccinated public will not unknowingly pass the virus on to others, including their loved ones who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised,” Walensky said.
Overall, 79% of vaccinated individuals infected with COVID-19 also reported symptoms such as cough, headache, sore throat and fever. Four had to be hospitalized.
Vaccinated individuals have received one of three types available made by Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, data show.
