US CDC Bans People from Wearing Ventilated Masks

WASHINGTON – It is mandatory for global citizens to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But not all masks can be worn while walking outside and one is a mask that is covered in or has respiratory ventilation, says the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This mask with a one-way valve is intended for use in construction work, allowing the user to inhale filtered air and exhale warm, moist air through the valve, according to The Washington Post. The valve reduces heat and moisture inside the mask, making it more comfortable to wear for long periods.

But this design does not prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The main reason for wearing a mask in the COVID-19 era is to prevent breathing from floating into the air when someone coughs, sneezes or talks, the CDC said. But when the mask has a valve, the breath of the wearer will be expelled into the air and can reach other people.

“This type of mask does not prevent people wearing masks from transmitting COVID-19 to others,” the CDC said on its website web-New.

Many airlines have banned customers from wearing masks with valves on flights, reports Washington Post. American Airlines is the latest airline to announce the ban, which took effect on August 19, according to a statement from the airline issued Wednesday (August 12).

The CDC recommends wearing cloth masks when in public, and notes surgical masks and N95 masks should be provided to healthcare workers and first responders. (Also read: Realme C12 brings new entry-level standards with a choice of 6,000mAh battery)
