A cadet from the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) was one of two people killed this week in a plane crash south of Fort Worth, Texas, a military official reported.
Lt. Gen. Richard Clark, USAFA superintendent in Colorado Springs, Colorado, tweeted that Nick Duran, in his junior year of college, was killed in Thursday’s crash while on leave to be home in Texas.
“He was our brother, a friend, colleague and partner, and he will always be a part of USAFA,” Clark said. “I am very proud of how our cadets have learned from each other and honored Nick’s life.”
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said 20-year-old Duran died of trauma.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the remains of the single-engine Grumman / American Aviation AA-1A with two people on board were found near Cleburne on Thursday after it was declared missing.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said two people were confirmed dead and that the plane was located just west of the Cleburne Regional Airport.
Cleburne is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Fort Worth.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident.
