The United States men’s basketball team receives an unpleasant surprise in the first game Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The US was forced to surrender to France with a score of 76-83.
France challenged the US in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Group A match which took place at the Saitama Super Arena, Sunday (25/7/2021) evening WIB. The Dream Team had a 74-67 lead in the remaining 3 minutes 41 seconds before finally losing.
It was the US’ first loss at the Olympics since 2004, ending a streak of 25 wins. Boston Celtics’ Evan Fournier inspired France by scoring 28 points during 34 minutes of play on the pitch.
The United States brings in top players like Kevin Durant (Brooklyn Nets) Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Zachary Lavine (Chicago Bulls).
Durant, Lillard, Lavine, Green, and Edrice Adebayo (Miami Heat) appear as starters.
The US defeat was caused by poor finishing in the second half. Despite having the best shooting team in the tournament, the US failed to find the net for the last four and a half minutes.

Durant only scored 10 points until the end of the game. Lillard 11 points, Adebayo 12 points, and substitute Jrue Holiday who had just won the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks appeared the most shine after scoring 18 points.
The United States men’s basketball team is a traditional gold medal team at the Olympics. Since basketball became a sport that was competed in 1936, the United States has failed to win a gold medal only three times in 22 editions.
Now the US is under pressure for the remainder of the tournament Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Kevin Durant cs had to win his two group matches against Iran and the Czech Republic in order to qualify for the knockout stages.
