US authorities use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine again

Friday night, US authorities announced that they will resume vaccination of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, writes AP. This happens after the infection control authorities in the country recommended using the vaccine again. The vaccine was put on hold on 13 April.

Of the nearly eight million Americans who were vaccinated before the authorities put the vaccine on pause, health officials have found 15 cases of the rare blood clot variant. Three of these have lost their lives. All are women, and most are under 50 years old.

Several countries, including Norway, have stopped using the vaccine. The symptoms of a blood clot and a low level of platelets were similar to those seen after using AstraZeneca’s coronary vaccine.
