The Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights of the United States, Sorry Zeyaarrived in Guatemala this Wednesday for a two-day official visit in which he will discuss bilateral issues.
On the first day of the visit, Zeya met privately with Guatemala’s deputy foreign ministers, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.

Guatemalan Foreign Minister Mario Bucaro was not present at the meeting. This is because he is on a mission abroad, explained the same source.

Zeya added that, in addition to the meetings with government authorities, she will have talks with representatives of the judicial sector, civil society and human rights defenders.
Zeya’s visit comes 10 days after Title 42, for immediate expulsion, expired at the borders of the United States.
The undersecretary’s tour of the region began on May 22 and will end in Colombia.
Guatemala is a key country in the fight against drug trafficking for the United States. According to international organizations, 90% of the drugs that arrive in the North American country pass through this nation.
According to the State Department, Zeya, with a 27-year diplomatic career, is leading global efforts to strengthen democracy and human rights with partner countries.
