The US Army wants to get a new laser weapon. It will be developed by trusted defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

The US Army needs technology to protect fixed and semi-fixed infrastructure from airborne threats. The service wants to get a high-energy laser to destroy unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, aircraft and helicopters.
Lockheed Martin received $221 million to build laser weapons. Work under the contract will take place at the facilities of the American company in Washington, New York, New Jersey and Florida. The prototype is expected to be ready by October 2025.
The portfolio of Lockheed Martin already has several such systems. For example, in the winter of this year, the company tested a 50 kW DEIMOS laser weapon for Stryker wheeled armored personnel carriers. Last year, Lockheed handed over a 300kW HELSI laser to the Pentagon and began shipping HELIOS systems for ships.
