US and UK announce new sanctions on Russia

The new sanctions will ban US accounting and consulting firms from providing services to Russian clients.

Sanctions will also be imposed on Russian broadcasters Pervij Canal, Rossiya 1 and NTV for spreading disinformation about the war in Ukraine. U.S. companies will be banned from advertising on these TV channels and selling equipment to them.

US companies will also not be allowed to export wood products, industrial engines, boilers, bulldozers and other goods to Russia.

Some 2,600 Russian and Belarusian government and military officials will also be banned from entering the United States. 27 officials of the Russian bank Gazprombank will also be included in the “black list”.

London will set new import tariffs, including on platinum and palladium, which will trade £ 1.4 billion (€ 1.6 billion).

Export bans on industrial goods worth GBP 250 million (approximately EUR 290 million) will also be imposed.

“These sanctions will continue to damage Russia’s war machine,” said Anna Maria Trevelyan, Britain’s secretary of state for international trade.

With the new sanctions in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the total value of goods subject to import and export sanctions will reach four billion pounds (4.7 billion euros), said British Finance Minister Rishis Sunaks.
