US and South Korea Issue Joint Statement on Nuclear Strike Response

The United States and South Korea issued a joint statement on Saturday saying that the United States confirms that any nuclear strike on South Korea will mean a swift, strong and decisive response.

It was the second meeting of the US-South Korean Joint Nuclear Council (NCG) to discuss nuclear deterrence and joint action in the event of a conflict with North Korea.

North Korea has developed and tested ballistic missiles capable of reaching South Korea, Japan and the US mainland.

South Korea’s deputy national security adviser Kim Tae-hyo said on Friday that North Korea could conduct a test flight of an intercontinental ballistic missile as early as December. According to South Korean security chief Kim, it is a nuclear threat because the missile can carry a nuclear warhead.
