Regarding the possibility of North Korea launching additional satellites, South Korea and the United States said, “We need to make North Korea realize that there is nothing to be gained by provocation.”

Kim Gunn, head of the Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Headquarters, said on the 12th local time in Washington, DC, that the chief negotiator of North Korea’s nuclear program had a meeting and decided to lead the international community’s firm and united response to the possibility of additional provocations by North Korea.

The two countries also agreed to make efforts to more reliably block North Korea’s nuclear and missile development funding lines.

In a meeting with correspondents after consultations, Headquarters Director Kim said, “It is very important for the international community to faithfully implement the Security Council resolutions at a time when North Korea has recently shown signs of reopening its borders.” If there was, now is the opportunity to strengthen implementation.”

He also said, “Cyber is an area that I have focused on since I took office,” and added, “I launched a South Korea-U.S. working group in August of last year to respond to illegal cyber activities that have emerged as North Korea’s main source of income. We have achieved the result of freezing and redemption of parts.”

South Korea and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation on the UN Security Council’s response to North Korea, which is suffering from China and Russia’s non-cooperation, as an opportunity for South Korea to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Director Kim said, “Next year, Korea, the U.S. and Japan will act as members of the Security Council at the same time. The United States and South Korea will make active efforts so that the Security Council will no longer be silent about North Korea’s provocations.” We will work closely together to create momentum for a return to denuclearization.”

“It is important to make North Korea pay for its actions that raise tensions,” said Sung Kim, the U.S. State Department’s special representative for North Korea, at a meeting.
