Moving tanks and soldiers is not evidence of a withdrawal, says NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg. He also says there is no evidence yet that Russia is really recalling soldiers. “So far there has been no de-escalation.” Stoltenberg says he can also prove this with satellite images.
Russia and NATO member states have been engaged in an information battle surrounding the tensions over Ukraine. According to Washington, Russia could invade the country at any moment. Moscow calls that fake news and accuses the West of hysteria.
Cyber attacks
Ukraine itself also says it sees no signs of a Russian retreat. The Ukrainian defense minister relies on information from his intelligence services.
His ministry and a number of banks were hit by a cyber attack this week. Ukraine speaks of the largest hacking attack ever against the country and suspects that Russia is behind it.
Russia denies that. According to the US, it is not yet possible to say who is responsible for the cyber attack. A Dutch server would have been used in the attack. It was taken offline at the request of the police, reports BNR.
