Poland intends to abandon Russian gas

Poland and the United States are increasing the volume of the contract for the supply of liquefied gas, which will begin in 2023.
Polish PGNiG has signed an addendum to agreements with Venture Global LNG to increase supplies of liquefied gas from the United States, reports Polish radio.
–
The renewed contract provides for an increase in LNG supplies from 3.5 million tons to 5.5 million tons per year, which is equivalent to 7.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Deliveries will begin in 2023.
The head of PGNiG Pavel Majewski said that thanks to this agreement, Poland will become independent from gas supplies from Russia.
–
“This is the implementation of PGNiG’s strategy to achieve independence from gas supplies from the east. After 2022, when the Yamal contract expires, we will no longer be forced to buy gas from the east,” Mayevsky said.
He added that Poland’s gas independence from the Russian Federation also became possible thanks to the purchase of gas assets in Norway, the new Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, and the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie.
