US and Germany’s Plan for Ukraine: Supplying Weapons to Force Negotiations with Russia

The US and Germany want to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate with Russia, without persuading him directly, but by supplying only the weapons necessary to hold the current front. This was reported by the German newspaper Bild, citing sources from German government circles.

The plan of the USA and Germany is to deliver to Kiev exactly such weapons and in exactly such quantities that will allow the Ukrainian army to hold the current front, but it will not be able to take back the conquered territories,” the newspaper wrote. Source of “Bild” says that “Zelensky himself must realize that this cannot continue”.

“No demand from the outside. He must of his own free will address the nation and explain that negotiations are necessary,” the insider said.

The US and Germany want Zelensky to realize that the continuation of the conflict loses all meaning for Ukraine. Moreover, neither Chancellor Olaf Scholz nor US President Joe Biden intend to directly ask him to start negotiations. The publication recalls that the USA and Germany are the biggest suppliers of weapons to Kiev.

The newspaper stated that the situation on the Ukraine front was grim and that Russian troops were advancing, albeit slowly. The main objective of the German government at the moment was to help the authorities in Kiev to occupy a strategically advantageous position for negotiations.

“The White House and the chancellor’s office are coordinating their actions on this matter,” government officials said.

According to “Bild”, the USA and Germany also have a plan B.

What Berlin and Washington want as an alternative to negotiations is a frozen conflict without an agreement between the parties,” said a government source. In such a case, the current contact line will become a kind of new border between Ukraine and Russia.

“It’s like ‘Minsk’, but without the ‘Minsk,'” said the insider.

According to the publication, many decisions on arms supplies to the FRG are now made by Scholz’s cabinet, and not by the Ministry of Defense headed by Boris Pistorius. The latter is even ready to give Ukraine Taurus cruise missiles, but “his hands are tied.”
