US and Germany Responsibility in Case of Failure: Interview with Retired General Ben Hodges on Ukrainian Counter-offensive and Weapon Delivery Delay

In an interview with the German newspaper “Der Tagesspiegel”, the retired US general Ben Hodges emphasized that the US and Germany will bear responsibility in case of failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. He states that the two countries are showing hesitation in their support for Ukraine and are delaying the delivery of new weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFF), “Focus” reported.

Hodges expresses doubts about the will of the West to see Ukraine victorious in the conflict: “My faith in this is fading.” He criticized Washington’s slow decision-making to allow its allies to supply Kiev with F-16 fighter jets as an example of a lack of determination to help Ukraine succeed.

According to him, Germany has also delayed the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles for the Armed Forces. If the Ukrainian counterattack fails, the responsibility will fall on the US and German governments. However, according to Hodges, failure can be avoided if both sides act decisively now.

The general emphasizes that the ability of the ASU to carry out accurate strikes at a long distance plays a key role in success. This will help to disable Russian artillery as well as logistics and transport infrastructure. He also pointed out that long-range precision weapons would allow Ukraine to accelerate the destruction of Russian positions and increase pressure on Crimea, which would force Russia to rethink its presence in the region.
