US and European Chip Companies Deny Violating Sanctions, Despite Russian Imports of $1.7 Billion

The imported chips, which can be used in the production of military equipment, were made by US companies Intel Corp, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Analog Devices Inc. and European companies Infineon Technologies AG, STMicroelectronics NV and NXP Semiconductors NV.

Bloomberg reports that there is no evidence that companies have violated sanctions and exported technology to Russia. The publication reminds that most of the technologies subject to sanctions come to Russia through third countries, including China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the first nine months of last year alone, Russia imported more than $1.7 billion worth of chips, according to customs data.

US and European companies whose products went to Russia said they were in full compliance with the sanctions and stopped operating in Russia after Russian troops began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In addition to American and European companies, Chinese companies and Taiwanese company Realtek Semiconductor were also among the top 20 manufacturers whose products are supplied to Russia.
