US Ambassador to Yemen Warns Houthi Rebels of Impending Terrorist Group Designation

The United States ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, said in a social media post on Friday that time is running out for Yemen’s Houthi rebels, before Washington’s classification as a “terrorist group” took effect“.

AP reported this.

“The designation of the Houthis as a terrorist group will take effect on February 16, but it may be revised if the Houthi militias cease their activities in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden”Fagin stated.

So far, the militant group has shown no willingness to end its attacks on ships transiting the Red Sea.

The US has struck several Yemeni Houthi targets in the Red Sea

Naval targets were also hit

Many commercial carriers diverted ships after attacks by the Houthis, who control much of Yemen and say they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians, as Israel and Hamas wage war in Gaza.

The US and UK launched airstrikes against Houthi positions.
