US airlines warn of chaos due to 5G at airports – Tablets and phones – News

US airlines warn of chaos when putting the C-Band-5G into service, because it can interfere with altimeters. According to the airlines, thousands of flights will have to be canceled if telecom providers roll out the C-Band-5G on Wednesday.

Several major US airlines have brief which is owned by Reuters warned of chaos at airports if plans to roll out the C-Band-5G go ahead. According to the airlines, the frequencies of the C-Band-5G can cause problems with the altimeters of aircraft. If the band is taken into use on Wednesday, the airlines expect that hundreds of thousands of passengers will be stranded.

The problem was already raised by the aviation sector in the United States and the rollout has already been postponed once. The telecom providers Verizon and AT&T want to start using the C-Band-5G next Wednesday. According to the providers, C-Band-5G has been put into use in forty other countries without any problems and it should not be a problem for air traffic.

The US aviation authority banned the use of landing systems in places where 5G could potentially cause interference in December last year. These systems are used to land in poor visibility. The accuracy of these systems would be disrupted by 5G. This is because the frequencies between 3.7GHz to 3.98GHz of the band are too close to the 4.2GHz to 4.4GHz frequency band used by aircraft altimeters.

The C-Band-5G has not yet been put into use in the Netherlands. This has to do with the fact that these frequencies are used by satellite communications company Inmarsat. Due to the conflict with Inmarsat, the auction for the frequencies in the 3.5GHz band postponed.
