NEW YORK – Several US airlines canceled their scheduled flights to Israel from major US cities this Saturday, amid the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza that has led to a new war.
According to the FlightAware portal, at Israel’s main airport, Ben Gurion, located in Tel Aviv, this Saturday 16% of incoming or outgoing flights (46) were canceled and 23% (64) were delayed.
This portal indicates that the American companies United, Delta and American Airlines are among the airlines that have interrupted service with Israel, and that they provided from cities such as New York, New Jersey, San Francisco and Chicago.
A United flight from San Francisco to Tel Aviv diverted from its route after seven hours on Saturday and returned to its point of origin after learning of the Hamas terrorist group’s offensive against Israel, according to local media.
Several flights that left Europe from the company Ryanair, the most affected by the cancellations along with Wizz Air, also turned around, with a total of seven; followed by ITA, United and Wizz Air, with five cancellations.
United told the media this Saturday that it is suspending future operations with Tel Aviv while the situation continues and that it will “adjust its flight schedules as necessary.”
For its part, a Delta spokesperson told NBC that it is working with the US Government on the repatriation of US citizens who want to return to their homes, and is also trying to return its personnel to the US.
The large-scale attack by Hamas against Israel this Saturday led to a new war in which more than 200 Israelis and at least 232 Palestinians have died in Gaza, according to the latest data confirmed by medical sources on both sides.
