US agents who knocked over 75-year-old man suspended in protests | NOW

Two officers from the American city of Buffalo were suspended on Thursday evening after they knocked over a 75-year-old man earlier in the day during the Black Lives Matter protests in the city. The man fell on the back of his head and was seriously injured.

Video footage shows the man walking towards the officers as they advance in a line through a street. The man seems to ask something, but is knocked over by at least two officers. After falling on his head, he remains bleeding and motionless.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo is furious. In a statement, he calls the incident “completely unjustified and utterly disgraceful.” “I agreed with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown that the officers should be immediately suspended. Agents should uphold the law, not abuse it.”

The 75-year-old man was admitted to hospital with a head wound. According to the mayor, he was seriously injured.

In the United States, massive protests against racism and resulting police brutality have been going on for over a week. The reason was the violent arrest of George Floyd in Minnesota, who had an agent’s knee squeezed in his neck for minutes and died as a result.

In curbing protests, the US police also regularly use brute force against demonstrators, media and bystanders.
