Actor Cuba Gooding Jr., already indicted for forced touching three women, is now also accused of raping a woman in 2013, according to a civil complaint filed Tuesday.
In this complaint, registered with the Manhattan federal court and cited by several American media, the 52-year-old actor – Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1997 for his role in Jerry Maguire – is accused by an anonymous woman of having raped her in a hotel in Manhattan 7 years ago.
After inviting her over for a drink, he allegedly took her up to his room. She says she wanted to leave after he started to undress in front of her, but he allegedly stopped her, pushing her onto the bed to rape her twice, although she kept asking him to Stop.
“Our client makes very serious allegations against Cuba Gooding Jr. in the complaint that we have registered, she is anxious to obtain justice in court,” Gloria Allred, lawyer for the alleged victim, told AFP, who claims damages of an unspecified amount.
“These allegations are false and perjury,” the actor’s lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, told AFP. “We think the file will be rejected.”
Since 2019, around 20 women have accused Cuba Gooding Jr. of forced touching or sexual harassment.
He was charged with sexually assaulting three of the women behind the charges. His Manhattan trial was set to start in April, before being postponed sine die due to pandemic.
It is not known whether the woman behind the civil rape action contacted the police or the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Cuba Gooding Jr. rose to prominence with the film Boyz’n the Hood, the law of the streets (1991). He recently played OJ Simpson in the miniseries American Crime Story.
He is among the men of the spectacle who fell from grace with the #MeToo movement, which in February obtained a spectacular victory with the sentencing of ex-film producer Harvey Weinstein to 23 years in prison.
